Planning & Zoning

The Planning and Development Division is responsible for administering and updating the Land Management Ordinance and long-range planning efforts including the City’s Comprehensive Plan and various master plans.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to work towards improving the quality of life for the citizens of Greenville. Staff members work with various boards and commissions including the Planning Commission, the Design Review Board and the Board of Zoning Appeals.

Infill Standards Revisions

Amendments to the single-family residential infill standards (Sec. 19-6.9 of the Land Management Ordinance) were adopted by City Council on Jan. 25, 2016.

    The City of Greenville utilizes a consolidated Land Management Ordinance to publish its zoning and land development regulations (effective January 1, 2008).

    The City of Greenville regulates signs to ensure public safety, to protect property values, to maintain the visual attractiveness of the city and its environment and to promote the economic well-being of the community.

  6. Landscaping & Trees

    Regarding the removal of existing trees on either private or public property. If the property is zoned anything other than single-family residential, then our Heritage and Historic Tree Preservation requirements apply to only those trees that are within a required setback. Before removing any existing tree, review Section 19-6.3.2(C) of the Land Management Ordinance.
